About Bahareh Karimi
As an Iranian woman, painting is my way of remembering, resisting, and reconnecting. My work blends Persian calligraphy, dervish dance, and vibrant traditional colors to celebrate the spirit of freedom, femininity, and cultural memory.I often work in monochrome or limited color palettes, using acrylics on canvas with glazing techniques to evoke depth, movement, and emotion. Each piece is deeply personal — rooted in longing for a homeland I’ve left behind, yet carry within me. The whirling female figures in my paintings are not only visual odes to Sufi dance but also symbolic of women who continue to move, shine, and express joy despite restrictions. My artistic journey began in childhood, though I pursued engineering and migration shaped much of my path. Returning to art now feels like coming home — a way to heal, to speak without words, and to create new space for beauty, identity, and meaning.Through every brushstroke, I aim to evoke movement, emotion, and connection — inviting viewers to feel not just what they see, but what dances just beneath the surface.
